Strikeborn Movement Guide: Dashes, Wall Jumps, Jump Pads & Vertical Combat

Learn how Strikeborn movement works in the September 2026 early-access build: dash directions and pip budgeting, wall jumps, jump pad locations, air-route recovery, and repositioning in 100-player fights.

To move efficiently in Strikeborn, treat dashes as a limited budget you spend to confirm hits — not to travel — and use wall jumps and jump pads for free height, escapes, and vertical traversal of the waterfall map. The same system carries your air routes: dash after an uppercut, stay airborne with wall jumps, and always keep a dash saved for the way back to neutral. All mechanics below reflect the September 2026 early-access build; recheck movement inputs and limits after global mechanics changes.

Why movement matters in Strikeborn

Strikeborn treats movement as a real mechanic, not just repositioning. The waterfall map has real vertical space where wall jumps and jump pads are combo tools, not shortcuts. Dashes are a resource with a visible pip count, so commuting with them costs the escape tool. Air routes carry your target, and a well-timed pad launch or wall bounce can turn a losing trade into a kill. In a 100-player arena of cliffs, jump pads, and wall surfaces, movement is a tool for launching, escaping, and controlling when fights happen. The dash pip HUD is your movement budget — spending three pips to start a fight you did not need to start is not neutral.

Dash fundamentals and dash types

Dashes are a commitment tool, not a walk button. What a dash means depends on when it arrives:

  • A dash arriving before a hit is a trade, not a confirm — you gamble on who hits first.
  • A dash arriving after a confirmed uppercut is an air route opener — the correct use.
  • A dash out of a corner is a survival tool.
  • A dash across the map to chase a low-health target is a gamble — you arrive with no dash and no combo.

Strikeborn has front, side, and back dashes. Front and back dashes have jump variants: the back dash jump sends you into the air quickly but leaves end lag that can let opponents start a combo; the front dash jump cancels the dash, useful as a feint. Creator footage also shows you can back dash off other players, and that jumping mid-front-dash negates the dash's hit with a small ground bounce.

Note on keybinds: player footage shows the front dash on Q, but there is no official keycard — check your dash bind in your own client or settings.

Dash pips as a movement budget

The HUD tracks dash pips as a resource. Chasing every knockdown with a dash is how you get counter-hit in the air with no escape — spend dashes to confirm, not to greet. Dashing across the map to start a fight you did not need to start costs you the escape tool you will need when the fight goes wrong. If the opponent runs, do not dump three dashes — cut them off with a jump pad or a wall bounce instead.

Wall jumps

Wall jumps are among the most underrated mechanics for players coming from flat arena games.

How they work:

  1. Touch a wall surface with a jump available.
  2. Jump again — you get a second aerial action while the opponent is still on the ground. If your character slides instead, you were too shallow or had already used the reset.

Practical uses:

  • Combo extension: After an uppercut, a wall jump keeps you in the air when the opponent expects you to land.
  • Escape: If you are being juggled and see a wall, clip it — a free second jump and a direction change.
  • Positional reset: Coming out of a lost exchange, wall jumping toward a pad keeps you in the fight instead of falling into the ravine.

Wall jumps extend air routes and save you from ravine deaths — but if you clip the waterfall mesh instead of a wall, you die. Wall jump extensions are still working as of the September 2026 patch and remain safer than chasing height.

Jump pads and arena traversal

Jump pads reset your vertical position for free, and height changes the opponent's response options. At least three pad locations appear in creator footage:

  • One near the lower sand floor, launching players toward the mid-level ruins.
  • One under the waterfall overhang, giving height toward the cliff-top shrines.
  • One on a high ledge that puts you above the courtyard for a falling attack.

Uses:

  • Start a fight from above — a pad launch into an air M1 catches players expecting a grounded opponent.
  • Steal a pad during someone else's combo if they drift over it.
  • Cut off runners instead of spending dashes.
  • Take a high ledge without spending dashes.

The map itself is vertical: high ground (shrine roof, high cliffs) gives falling attacks and sightlines but is visible; mid-level ruins and courtyards are the neutral zone; the low sand floor and ravine bottom are where you get launched from. Knocking someone toward the waterfall mist is a natural edge guard. There are no invisible walls, moving platforms, or lethal water — the ravine is lethal only because you fall out of the playable area.

Ground-to-air movement sequence and vertical recovery

The sequence that underpins every advanced air route:

  1. Confirm a grounded hit with an M1 string.
  2. Leave the string on the uppercut (hit three) — do not complete hit four if you want an air route.
  3. Jump or dash after the uppercut — immediately, while they are still rising.
  4. Use one aerial skill you have already tested — several skills have different air versions; do not test a new air variant in a real fight.
  5. Return safely: land, block, or wall jump out. Do not chase a kill requiring a third untested input.

If the sequence breaks, it is usually at step two (auto-completing hit four) or step three (dashing too late) — both fixable with dummy practice. On unstable connections that drop your air combo, shorten routes (a two-hit confirm beats a five-hit one), save a dash for the escape — without one when the opponent counter-attacks, you will fall into the ravine — and practice recovery back to neutral as part of the route. Also note the September 2026 patch made air combos evadable, so movement-extended routes from before the patch may no longer work.

Defensive movement and repositioning in combat

Defensive movement lets you survive long enough to use cooldowns:

  • Block then move: Blocking stops the current exchange; moving after blocking starts the next one. Do not stand still after a block.
  • Perfect block (tight timing window): creates a larger punish window, high risk/high reward against readable players.
  • Counter (some slots for Yuji and Guts): requires reading the opponent's next action, not mashing.

The safest pattern is block, observe, then move — blocking gives you information, movement uses it. In a 100-player lobby, avoid the cliff edge unless you have already won, and dump opponents toward the mist rather than finishing a 12-hit cinematic that summons third parties.

Movement practice loop

A structured routine for the movement layer:

  1. 20 grounded M1 strings without auto-completing hit four.
  2. 20 uppercut converts into one aerial M1.
  3. 10 wall jumps that continue a route.
  4. 10 pad launches that start a fight.
  5. Each skill: grounded, back variant, air variant.

Before this, walk the map once and mark pad, wall, and ledge locations — knowing where pads are before a fight is the difference between using them and stumbling onto them.

Limits to keep in mind

Exact dash cooldowns, pip counts, and frame data are not documented. Keybinds should be verified in your own client. Air routes are not guaranteed true on high-ping 100-player servers — connection affects combo reliability.
